How Smart Borders Work

1

Upload Your Photo

Upload any photo in any aspect ratio - portrait, landscape, or square.

2

We Analyze It

Our system calculates the exact borders needed to fit your chosen print size.

3

Perfect Print

You get a perfectly sized print with your entire image preserved.

Understanding Cropping

Why aspect ratios matter

Your camera captures photos in a specific aspect ratio (like 4:3 or 16:9), but print sizes have different ratios. For example, a 4x6 print is a 3:2 ratio. If your photo doesn't match, something has to give - either crop the image or add borders.

Our Recommendation

Use Smart Borders if preserving your entire image is important. Use Borderless if you want the cleanest look and don't mind slight edge trimming. Use White Border for a classic, gallery-style appearance.

Match Your Photo to Print Size

Your Photo Ratio Best Print Sizes
4:3 (most phones) 8x10, 11x14, 16x20
3:2 (most cameras) 4x6, 8x12, 12x18
1:1 (square) 4x4, 5x5, 8x8, 10x10, 12x12
16:9 (widescreen) 11x17 (with smart borders)
